Have you ever considered a seed? It appears to be a small insignificant object, but science tells us it is a package filled with potential life. Each one packs a powerful punch of protein and other nutrients. Consider thousands of seeds being scattered in a home owner's yard. The seeds are scattered haphazardly in the hope that many will produce a few blades of grass that will result in a nice green lawn.
Some of the seeds fall on a nearby sidewalk and get trampled on, or are easily found by hungry birds...
Is There More? Yes!
Please continue reading:
Sometimes the seeds fall in his gravel driveway. These seeds sprout up quickly, but wither away because there is no water to help absorb nutrients.
Other grass seeds fall near thorn bushes, in a brier patch, or among some weeds. These grow for a time, but are choked out with no sunlight, or are crowded by competing roots.
The rest fall on good soil, and produce many thousands of blades of grass, yielding a beautiful green lawn.
what does this teach us
about God?
God wants you to hear what He has to say in His Word, the Bible.
In this story, the home owner scatters his seeds, much like God sending out people to proclaim His word in places like a grocery store, the place where you work, in your neighborhood, on a busy street corner, or even on a postcard.
what does this teach us
about humanity?
People hearing God's Word react in different ways. Like the seeds that fall on the sidewalk, some people are deterred by the evil around them and God's word is snatched away from them, and therefore are not saved.
Like the seeds that fall in the gravel driveway, some people receive the word with great enthusiasm and sprout some roots, but they don't receive further teaching and don't participate in personal Bible study, so they believe for a while. But when they are tested they fall away.
As for the seeds that fall near a thorny bush or cactus, these people hear, but are choked by the cares, riches, and pleasures, or other distractions of life. Whatever fruit they produce does not mature.
The people who are like the good soil, receive God's Word into their hearts, nurture it by studying His Word, and go out to tell others about God
and His gift of forgiveness provided through His Son, Christ Jesus.
where is God's grace
in the story?
The home owner throws his seeds far and wide to get the most coverage for a solid green lawn. God scatters His word among all people: young and old, no matter what color, rich and poor. He does this because He wants all in His creation to worship and praise Him.
What Kind of Soil are You?
how will you respond
to this message?
Are you a concrete sidewalk?
Will you allow Satan or others to take away the gift of salvation that God is offering to you?
Are you a gravel driveway?
You might accept His word joyfully, but don't seek out others who will teach you more about Christ, or don't study His word.
Are you a thorn or weed?
Will you, after claiming to be saved continue to pursue the distractions, riches and pleasures that our deceitful society promises?
OR
Are you like good soil?
Will you accept the Christ of the inerrant Word of God into your heart? Will you seek out others to teach you more about God? Will you study God's word on a regular basis? Will you also follow His command to tell others about Him, helping to make a full green lawn of His creation?
